AFCON AFCON QUALIFIER : Onyango says Afcon qualification in Uganda’s hands

Denis Onyango

Uganda captain, Dennis Onyango, has said he is confident that the Cranes will secure passage to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals.

The Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper choose to look at positives from their home goalless draw against Burkina Faso on Wednesday at the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

“I’m happy with the performance of the boys especially in the second-half. We played better football and created more chances but like the coach said, it is still in our hands despite getting just a point today. We must go to Malawi with the right attitude and play for the positive result on Monday,” Uganda FA website quotes the skipper as saying.

The Cranes need any draw against Malawi in Blantyre on Monday to sail through whereas the hosts can progress with any win.

Uganda remain second in group B on eight points and need just a point against Malawi on Monday to qualify. In another match for the group, Malawi beat South Sudan 1-0 in Sudan to boost their chances of sneaking through to the finals.
