Both nations have once won the Africa Cup of Nations with Sudan having left the trophy in 1970, while South Africa celebrated the silverware in 1996 as they bit Tunisia 2-0 in final.

So far, they are yet to make an exploit in the continental competition despite having one the best championships in Africa.

Currently second in group C with ten points, Bafana Bafana have to draw at least against Sudan in order to seal their qualification for 2021 AFCON, due to their disappointing 1-1 draw to Ghana on matchday 5.
