Manchester City ace Riyad Mahrez returned to inspire Algeria to an emphatic 5-0 beating of Botswana on Monday night.

The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match took place at Stade Mustapha Tchaker in Algiers.

Aissa Mandi put the Desert Foxes in front in the 24th minute before Sofiane Feghouli added the second goal in the 58th minute.

Mahrez, who missed the away game to Zambia last week, scored on his return in the 64th minute.

Bagdad Bounedjah put matters beyond the reach of the Zebras with the fourth goal coming in the 72nd minute before Farid Boulaya put the final nail on the coffin of the visitors.

The win saw Algeria preserve their unbeaten run as they finished on top of the group with 14 points.

The reigning African kings already booked their place at the Afcon finals and they are the favourites to retain it in Cameroon.

Algeria finished the group with 14 points ahead of Zimbabwe’s eight points.

Zambia finished the group with seven points.
