AFCON AFCON QUALIFIERS : Uganda FA boss gives Malawi credit for beating the Cranes

Federation of Uganda Football Associations (Fufa) president Moses Magogo has refused to give any excuse to the Cranes 1-0 loss to Malawi on Monday afternoon.

The Cranes lost at Kamuzu Stadium to miss out on qualification ticket to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals.

Before the game, some unconfirmed reports suggested that Malawi was playing games over results of Covid-19 for the Cranes players.

However, Magogo said all the Cranes players available featured in the Group B match.

We lost fairly after the authorities declared all our players Covid negative and available for selection. The Mozambiqe referees were very fair to all. The better team on the pitch won. Congratulations to Malawi. We will shift our focus to the Fifa 2022 World Cup qualifiers coming in June,” Magogo wrote.

The Flames beat Uganda in Blantyre courtesy of Richard Mbulu’s 16th minute goal to book their place to the Afcon finals from group B.

Malawi finished the group with 10 points following the back-to-back wins including over South Sudan last week.

It was only the third time that the Flames have qualified for the Afcon finals the last time being in 2010.

Burkina Faso also qualified from the group.
