AFCON AFCON QUALIFIERS : Zambia get their revenge over Zimbabwe

Patson Daka

Zambia bowed out of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying race on a high after winning 2-0 away in neughbouring Zimbabwe on Monday night.

Austria-based Patson Daka scored both goals in Harare to help Zambia make up for last week’s 3-3 draw with Algeria.

The match was of academic interest as Zimbabwe and Algeria had already qualified for the finals.

It was a sweet revenge for Zambia who lost at home to Zimbabwe in a first leg tie.

Zambia coach Micho made several changes dropping captain Kabaso Chongo to the bench alongside Augustine Mulenga, defender Luka Banda and South Africa based Ghampani Lungu.

The changes paid off as Benedict Chepeshi passed the ball for Daka to score in the first half.

In the second-half, the Redbull Salzburg forward completed his brace when he was released by team-mate Enock Mwepu to second the second late in the game.

Zambia finished the group with seven points whereas Zimbabwe have eight points and Algeria 14 points.
