Africa Soccer MALAWI : Ngalande out for six weeks, optimistic of quick return to action

Malawian attacker Robin Ngalande has said he hopes to return to action after six weeks from an injury he suffered on March 29 2021.

The Ethiopia-based forward said he tore his right tendon during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

It’s alright. I should be fine soon. There is still more pain. I was advised not to start with therapy yet as the injury is still fresh. I have been given six weeks out. I am sure the recovery will be that quick,” the St George playmaker said.

Recalling how he got injured, the former Atletico Madrid youth player said things happened so fast on the pitch.

“[I was] alone. I think my quick take-off towards the ball surprised the Achilles,” Ngalande said.

A tendon is the fibrous tissue that attaches muscle to bone. Ngalande’s injury concerns an Achilles, a type of a tendon located on the back portion of the foot just above the heel where the calf muscle attaches to the heel of the foot.

The former Malawi under-17 player was stretchered off while playing for Malawi’s Flames who went on to beat Uganda’s Cranes 1-0.

The former Baroka forward is, nonetheless, happy that the Flames eventually qualified for the AFCON finals from Group B with 10 points, joining at the finals Burkina Faso.

The ex-Bidvest Wits player praised the Flames coach Meck Mwase for having faith in him evidenced by his recall ahead of final qualifying matches against South Sudan and Uganda.

Malawi won both games by 1-0 margins.
