Africa Soccer SAFA Unveils Date Of Appointing New Bafana Bafana Coach

Bafana Bafana are currently without a coach after parting ways with Molefi Ntseki. The decision came out after he failed to lead the team to next year’s delayed Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Cameroon. As the team lost 2-0 in Sudan in their final group match when all they required was a draw.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) is planning on appointing a local coach to fill vacant Bafana Bafana coaching position.

SAFA are in a rush to fill the vacancy with the national team. As their qualifying campaign for the 2022 Soccer World Cup will kick off in early June. It will be a game away from home against neighbours Zimbabwe.

Bafana also share group with Ghana and Ethiopia with just the winner of the group progressing to the next stage.

AmaZulu coach Benni McCarthy and former Maritzburg United coach Eric Tinkler have been in link with the job.

According to the Kickoff website, a source close to SAFA confirmed that a shortlist should come out by Monday, 12th April. And SAFA will release the name of the new head coach at the end of the month. Meaning 21 days away.

That would leave the new coach with around five weeks for the first all-important 2022 World Cup qualifier in Zimbabwe.

With SAFA looking local, that rules out former SA national coach, Portugal’s Carlos Queiroz, returning for a second stint at the helm.
