Ghana international Mubarak Wakaso confirmed signing for Shenzhen FC together with his compatriot Frank Acheampong. The deal occured ahead of the new 2021 Chinese Super League season. And the 30-year-old has explained the real reason why he left reigning Chinese Super League champions Jiangsu Suning.

In February 2021, Jiangsu declared bankrupt. And they were consequently disqualified from the league three months after clinching their maiden Super League title.

Wakaso has now disclosed the bankruptcy of Jiangsu forced him to move to Shenzhen.

“It is true I am in China at the moment. My former club went bankrupt. So I became a free player. I was talking to other clubs and currently, I have found a new club.” Wakaso told Pathofex.

“I have joined the new team with Frank Acheampong who has played here in China for a while. I have signed a four-year contract with the team. I don’t know about the contract details of Frank Acheampong.

“When I came here I realised the league is very competitive, looking at the top players from Europe to have joined the league.” He added.

Wakaso had joined Jiangsu from Spanish La Liga side Deportivo Alaves in January 2020. And he made 18 Super League appearances.

Acheampong and Wakaso are likely to make their official debuts for Shenzhen when they face Henan Songshan Longmen in their opening Super League game on April 21.
