CAF Champions League Al Ahly Draw Against Sundowns Again In CAF Champions League quarterfinal

The CAF Champions League quarterfinal draw has come out and Egypt giants Al Ahly SC are set to face South Africa giants Mamelodi Sundowns for the third year in a row at the same stage.

Al Ahly were crowned as the Champions League winners for the ninth time in the club’s history after defeating arch-rivals Zamalek 2-1 in the final that was held in Cairo in November 2020.

The Red Devils hold the record being the team with most Champions League wins. And they have achieved the majority of their African exploits in the early 2000s. And then they went to achieve a further three CL trophies in the past eight years.

Al Ahly have been drawn to face Sundowns in the quarterfinal for the third consecutive time, having met them in the same stage of the tournament in the past two editions, with each winning one of the two. Pitso Mosimane is also set for a return to his former club Sundowns, where he spent the majority of his coaching career between 2012 and 2020. And he played a big role in the club’s rise to the pinnacle of African football in 2016.

Mosimane’s men will play the first leg encounter on the 14th-15th of May in Cairo. They will then after travel to South Africa on the 21st-22nd of the same month for the second leg.

The draw have also disclosed that the winner of the clash between the Red Devils and the Brazilians would play against the winner of the CR Belouizdad and Esperance Sportive de Tunis meeting in the semifinal.
