Simy Nwankwo has been impressing in the Italian Serie A this season. And the Nigeria international has disclosed the attributes that distinguish him from other strikers.
The towering centre forward is in the race for this season’s Serie A Golden Boot award having netted 19 goals from 33 matches for FC Crotone.
Only Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo (25) and Inter Milan star Romelu Lukaku (21) have scored more goals than Nwankwo in the Serie A thus far.
The 28-year-old says he may not have the qualities of Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi. But he can reach where others cannot.
“I may not be the most technically refined. For some, I am even poor. It is not a problem.” Simy said on Alfredo Pedulla.
“I’m Simy. I’m almost two metres tall. And this gives me advantages and disadvantages as well.
“With my feet and my head I reach where others can’t. But in the tight spaces I know I’m not Messi. When I get the ball, I have to hit it.”
Nwankwo has been able to carry his form from Serie B into the Italian top-flight league having impressed with his goalscoring exploits last season while playing for Crotone.
The Onitsha-born player scooped the 2019/20 Serie B Golden Boot award after netting 20 goals. And he helped Crotone earn promotion back to Serie A.
