Foot Europe Paul Onuachu Set Two New Club Records As Racing Genk Thrashed Club Brugge 3-0

Racing Genk thrashed Club Brugge 3-0 at the Luminus Arena on Friday night. The glowing Nigeria international Paul Onuachu used the opportunity to set two new club records.

When he opened the scoring in the 57th minute, the lanky striker took his tally in the league to 31, breaking Wesley Sonck’s record for the most league goals in a single-season in the process.

Sonck set his record nineteen years ago, scoring 30 league goals over the course of the 2001-2002 campaign.

The retired Belgium international finished that season with 32 goals in all competitions, which was a record for the most goals scored by a Genk player in all competitions until it was surpassed by Onuachu tonight.

Onuachu blasted the ball past goalkeeper Simon Mignolet to give Racing Genk a 1-0 lead – his 33rd goal in all competitions with two netted in the Belgian Cup.

While Sonck netted his 32 goals in 35 appearances in all competitions, Onuachu reached 33 goals after 38 matches.

The Nigerian is averaging a goal every 92 minutes, better than Sonck who scored at the rate of a goal every 99 minutes.
