Mostafa Mohamed netted a brace in Galatasaray’s sweeping victory over Denizlispor on Tuesday night to boost their chances in lifting the Turkish Super Lig title.

Mohamed was brought on as a sub during Galatasaray’s win over Yukatel Denizlispor in their penultimate game in the Turkish Super Lig.

The 23-year-old entered the game in the 57th minute when his side was 2-0 up. And five minutes later, Denizlispor reduced the deficit to just one goal.

His first opportunity to score came in the 84th minute from the penalty spot. But his effort was saved. Luckily, the referee ordered the penalty to be replayed due to Denizlispor players entering the penalty area. And he fortunately converted in the second try.

A couple of minutes later he doubled the scoring with a close range effort, handing his side a crucial 4-1 win in their title chase.

Talking after the game, Terim explained why he insisted that the Zamalek loanee take the second penalty.

“I’m happy with Mohamed today. I insisted that I wanted him to take the penalty. And I’d rather lose a penalty than lose a player, I don’t like losing people.” Terim said in a post-match interview.

“I was just as glad that he scored the second penalty. Not losing a player is more important for me than many things.” He concluded.

The Egyptian striker started the game on the bench after suffering an ankle injury in the derby against Beşiktaş, which made his participation uncertain. However, following his performance Tuesday, it’s safe to say that the player is fully recovered.

The Yellow-Reds received good news after the game as both title rivals Beşiktaş and Fenerbahçe suffered defeats. Mostafa’s side moved to second place with 81 points, just behind Beşiktaş on goal difference.

Galatasaray will be facing Karim Hafez’s Yeni Malatyaspor in the final round on May 15. On the other side, Beşiktaş will be up against Goztepe at home, with Fenerbahçe travelling to face Kayserispor.
