Africa Soccer CAFCL : Kaizer Chiefs, players achieve milestones after thrashing Simba

Kaizer Chiefs set team and individual players record in trouncing Simba SC of Tanzania 4-0 in a CAF Champions League quarter-final first leg match at FNB Stadium on Saturday evening.

It was not only probably Chiefs biggest win in the continental club competition but also the Soweto giants set a record for clean sheets.

 “Kaizer Chiefs have now gone through all six of their home games in the 2020-21 CAF Champions League without conceding a goal, this was their sixth successive home clean sheet. Chiefs have now gone 540 minutes at home in the CAF Champions League this campaign at home without letting in a goal. Overall, it was Chiefs 9th clean-sheet in eleven games in the tournament this campaign,” Chiefs website states.

Mulomowandau Mathoho, Samir Nurković (a double), and substitute Leonardo Castro were the scorers against the Tanzania opposition.

In the process, Mathoho and the Serbian Nurkovic inked their small pieces of history.

Nurković became the first European born player to score in the CAF Champions League for Chiefs.

On the other hand, defender Mathoho overtook Zimbabwean Knowledge Musona as Chiefs all-time leading scorer in the Champions League.

Mathoho scored his 3rd goal of the current CAF Champions League campaign. It was also his 6th goal in the CAF Champions League for the club—making him Chiefs’ all-time top scorer in the competition – taking him above Knowledge Musona into top spot,” Chiefs website reports.

Chiefs travel to Tanzania for the second leg on May 22 2021.
