Africa Soccer PREMIER LEAGUE : Welbeck acknowledges Tau’s assist

Percy Tau

Brighton and Hove striker Danny Welbeck has credited his goal in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with West Ham United to South African forward Percy Tau.

I was pleased with the goal. Percy [Tau] looks for that pass and I am dangerous running in behind,” Welbeck told Brighton website.

Tau, who has not enjoyed regular football since his return to Brighton from a loan spell in Belgium, provided the assist after coming off the bench.

However, Welbeck said West Ham’s late equalizer undermined his goal.

The former Manchester United and Arsenal striker put Brighton ahead after six minutes only for West Ham to draw level through Said Benrahma.

It feels like two points dropped. We need to be better in those situations when we’re one up and there’s not long to go if we’re going to get to the next level,” Welbeck said.

“I would have loved to have hit the Premier League 50 goal mark a lot earlier, it’s been a tough time but I feel strong and sharp and there is so much more to come from me.

“As a team we would have liked to have been safe ourselves and not rely on other teams and with the players we have we should be looking further up the table.”

Brighton face champions-designate Manchester City later on Tuesday.
