Africa Soccer GHANA : Andre Ayew’s goal puts Swansea’s dream alive

Andre Ayew

Ghanaian Andre Ayew scored the only goal for Swansea City as they beat Barnsley at Oakwell on Monday to keep Premier League promotion dream on track.

Ayew’s 38th minute goal means that Swansea, have for a second season in a row, won the first leg of their semi-final play-off in the Championship.

The Ghanaian also helped Swansea win the first leg at the similar stage last year at the Liberty against Brentford.

However, Swansea went on to lose the second leg 3-1 and miss out on promotion from the Championship.

In view of this, Swansea coach Steve Cooper has challenged his players to learn from last year’s experience.

“We have been here before, this time last year, and we know it is only a small lead,” he told Swansea website.

It only matters if you manage it and protect it and that has to be the focus and mentality now going into Saturday.”

For Ayew,  it was his 17th goal of the season. It means Swansea will return to the Liberty Stadium on Saturday.
