Africa Soccer ZIMBABWE : Nakamba marvelous in Villa’s win

Zimbabwean midfield workhorse Marvelous Nakamba created an equalising goal for Aston Villa as they came from behind to beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 on Wednesday evening.

Spurs were off to a flying start after Steven Bergwijn scored in the eighth minute at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, Nakamba floated a powerful ball into the box and Spurs’ Reguilón sliced his attempted clearance into his own net.

That equaliser spurred Villa into more scoring mood.

Villa’s goal did come in the 59th minute when Ollie Watkins scored what was his 16th goal of the season.

Spurs pushed for an equaliser but goalkeeper Matinez made telling saves to keep the hosts’ attackers at bay.

On the other end, Watkins had chances to increase the lead but lacked urgency and calmness in the final third.

With two minutes to full-time, Villa bos Dean Smith threw into the thick of things teenager Carney Chukweumeka to replace Nakamba.

Villa are on position 12 on the log table with 52 points from 37 games whereas Spurs are sixth with 59 points from 37 matches.
