Africa Soccer MALAWI : Pasuwa guns for season’s 1st win in Lilongwe

Nyasa Big Bullets coach Kallisto Pasuwa will be gunning for his first win of the 2021 TNM Super League campaign in Lilongwe when meeting Blue Eagles at Nankhaka Ground on Saturday.

The defending champions have not won in the Capital City where they drew 0-0 against Mafco then lost 1-0 to table-topping Silver Strikers who are led by Zambian Dan Kabwe.

Now, the Zimbabwean Pasuwa told the media on Thursday that the record 14-time league champions want to turn around their fortunes in Lilongwe.

“I think we have been pushing the boys to do well in Lilongwe because it’s in their minds that whenever we play in Lilongwe, we end up losing games, but again remember last year we won the last two games that won us the championship in Lilongwe,” Pasuwa told Bullets website.

Games can be very difficult, but again we need to quickly adjust. If you want to be a champion, you can win anywhere even when you play in the mud, water logged pitches.”

Facing Eagles will not be easy for Bullets.  Eagles coach Gerald Phiri Senior is now into his second of the three-game target to save his job.

Two weeks ago, Eagles earned three points via a boardroom decision after Ekwendeni Hammers forgot to bring their players’ identity cards. Now Eagles must earn the maximum points on the pitch.

The police-owned team is on position 12 with 15 points. Phiri has since made minor changes installing goalkeeper John Soko as captain taking over from Micium Mhone.

On Sunday, Bullets travel a few kilometres away to Kasungu Stadium where TN Stars lie in wait.

Stars should be out for home revenge as they lost 6-0 to Bullets in their first-round last meeting at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre last week.

The weekend’s matches mark the start of the second round of the 16-member league.

Silver, who lead the title charge with 35 points from 15 games, host Mafco on Saturday.

Silver are six points ahead of the second-placed Bullets.

Down the table, Mighty Tigers anchor the table with 11 points from 15 games. Tigers face Red Lions on Sunday at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre.
