African players abroad ZAMBIA : Daka named Austrian League Player of Year

Zambian hotshot Patson Daka has scooped the Tipico Austrian Bundesliga Player of the Year 2020/2021 Award.

The 22-year-old striker has earned the accolade following his sterling displays with Red Bull Salzburg FC.

To put the icing on the came, Daka has also claimed the Golden Boot Award with 27 goals from 27 matches for the Bundesliga champions.

Club presidents, managers and coaches voted in the award which also saw Salzburg’s Jesse Marsch named coach of the year.

Daka will be crowned officially on Saturday after the academic match against WSG Tirol.

The Zambian has since hailed his team mates for playing a role in his good performance.

I am really proud of this and would like to thank all the presidents, club managers and coaches for the award. My biggest thank you goes to my team-mates and coaching staff, however, who I would like to dedicate this honour to,” Daka told Salzburg website.

On his part, Marsch said: “I have said often already that I will leave Salzburg and Austria with so many great memories. This honour is one of these, and I owe it to everyone I have been able to work with at FC Red Bull Salzburg. I had an incredible time here.”
