CAF Champions League CAF CL: Mosimane boots out former employers Sundowns

Coach Pitso Mosimane returned to South Africa with Al Ahly and successfully booted out his former employers, Mamelodi Sundowns, from the CAF Champions League on Saturday afternoon.

The holders Al Ahly are through to the semifinals after playing out to a 1-1 draw with the South African hosts Sundowns.

Al Ahly progressed 3-1 on aggregate after the quarterfinal second leg match at Lucas Moripe Stadium in South Africa.

Ibrahim headed in the opener for the defending champions Al Ahly in the 11th minute.

Striker Peter Shalulile had a chance to level matters in the 29th minute when he controlled Aubrey Modiba’s pass.

However, the leading Namibian forward had his shot blocked for a corner kick.

A minute later, there was no stopping Mosa Lebusa from levelling matters after scoring via a beautiful header.

First-half ended 1-1 and there was no change in the second stanza.

The Egyptian giants won the first played in Cairo 2-0.

It was a personal trumph for Mosimane whose exit at Sundowns created room for the hiring of three coaches— Mngqithi Manqoba, Steve Komphela and Rulani Mokwena.

In the end, Mosimane prevailed.
