Dstv Premiership DSTV PREMIERSHIP : Shock as Kaizer Chiefs sack coach

Kaizer Chiefs have made a shock move to sack coach Gavin Hunt after  a run of 12 wins, 15 losses and 17 draws.

Kaizer Chiefs have terminated coach Gavin Hunt’s contract with immediate effect. Hunt joined Amakhosi in September 2020 ahead of the 2020/21 season.

“During this time, he was in charge of 44 official matches (12W, 17D, 15L) in all competitions. In the interim, Assistant Coaches Arthur Zwane and Dillon Sheppard will take charge of the senior team,” Chiefs’ statement issued last evening reads.

The struggling Soweto giants have promised to ‘make further announcements in due course’ regarding the new coach.

While Chiefs are struggling in the DStv Premiership, the same is not the case in the CAF Champions League.

Hunt steered Chiefs to their first ever Champions League semi-final stage after seeing off Simba SC of Tanzania last week.

Chiefs are set to face Wydad Casablanca of Morocco next month in the semifinals.

Chiefs are on position 11 with 30 points from 28 games, eight points behind bottom-placed Black Leopards.

Chiefs lost to Leopards 2-1 on Wednesday in what proved to be the last straw for Hunt.
