The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced on Saturday that Zamalek coach Patrice Carteron has been given a two-match touchline ban and fined EGP 70,000 for remonstrating with the referee of the game against Ismaily in the Egypt Cup on Thursday.

“Zamalek’s coach has been fined EGP 70,000, including 20,000 for his behavior and 50,000 for asking his players to withdraw from a football game.” Read a statement by the EFA.

The 50-year-old stormed the pitch and shouted at the referee after the official sent off Moroccan winger Achraf Bencharki shortly before halftime.

He was given a straight red card and was shown gesturing to his players to leave the pitch.

Carteron will now miss Zamalek’s league game against Gouna on Sunday and the Egypt Cup quarterfinal against Maqassa on Friday.

Zamalek will lose the services of a number of key players when they take on Gouna in the 25th matchday of the Egyptian Premier League on Sunday as Bencharki, Ferjani Sassi and Hamza Methlouthi are all suspended. 

Zamalek top the league table with 54 points after playing 24 games, 13 points ahead of title holders Ahly who can pull clear if they win their five matches in hand.
