Africa Soccer ZAMBIA : Kenyan Were celebrates 100-goal milestone with Zesco

Kenyan forward Jesse Were has said he is excited to etch his name in the forklore of Zesco United FC as the club’s all-time leading scorer with 100 goals.

For me, it is a great achievement being in this team, getting a century of goals for the club just makes me happy. It motivates me; the way the team is doing on top of the league it just makes me happy. When you leave home, you usually go for  searching, thank god the searching has become great and I have managed to put in 100 goals for the team. I will keep working hard for the club,” he said.

Were said this after scoring a hat-trick in Zesco’s 4-0 win over Kitwe United at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Sunday.

He was speaking to Zesco United Media Officer, Desmond Katongo, after the MTN Super League match.

Were joined the Lusaka-based Zesco in 2015 from Tusker FC in Kenya.

Zesco website reports that Were got his first goal in the eighth minute via a beautiful chip.

Eventually, the Kenyan made it a brace after scoring through a long range shot.

Winstone Kalengo then added the third goal in the 35th minute after charging into the dangerous zone.

Were completed his hat-trick in the 56th minute for his 100th goal for the club, the website adds.

Zesco have since closed in on the league title as they need just two points.

Nkana, who next meet Nkana FC after two weeks, have 61 points from 30 games, eight points ahead of Zanaco.
