AFCON Egypt Not Planning To Step In As 2021 AFCON Host-Shobier

Former Egyptian goalkeeper Ahmed Shobier has rubbished reports that Egypt will host the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

There are rumours that Cameroon could again be stripped off the hosting right with Egypt coming to the rescue like what happened in the 2019 AFCON when Cameroon withdrew their hosting bid for Egypt to step in.

CAF had rescheduled the 2021 AFCON draw initially set to hold June 25 citing COVID-19 as reasons for the decision.

Cameroon Local Organizing Committee immediately approved the postponement with a new date yet to be decided which is fueling speculations that Cameroon are not ready.

Shobier in a TV programme stated that Egypt did not mane bid to step in and host the competition.

Egypt did not make a bid to host the competition nor Cameroon have withdrawn their bid.

“Cameroon stadiums are ready but they have some minor issues with the roads leading to the stadiums.”

AFCON 2021 is scheduled to start on January 9, 2022 until February 6, 2022. Egypt had qualified after finishing on top of Group G, alongside Comoros who finished second with nine points.
