South Africa’s Bafana Bafana gave new coach Hugo Broos a winning start to his reign in absentia.

South Africa came from behind to defeat the Cranes of Uganda 3-2 at Orlando Stadium on Thursday evening.

Assistant coach Helman Mkhalele stepped in for Broos who went back home to Belgium.

Mkhalelele rung the changes handing debuts to Rushine De Reuck, Denwin Farmer, Sibusiso Mabiliso, Nkosinathi Sibisi, Craig Martin, Ethan Brooks, Sphelele Mkhulise and Bongokuhle Hlongwane.

Uganda went ahead through Bafana Bafana Ibrahim Orit who scored past Ronwen Williams I the 17th minute via a powerful head after a delivery from the right wing.

South Africa had to wait until the second half when substitute Evidence Makgopa scored the leveler in the 60th minute.

Thereafter, South Africa were in the ascendancy as they netted through Hlongwane.

Makgopa completed his brace in the 82nd minute before Uganda scored their second goal with a few minutes to full time through  Abdu Lumala.
