Africa ZAMBIA : Confederation Cup reps Napsa Stars relegated

Napsa Stars FC have been relegated from Zambia’s MTN Super League after they lost 1-0 to Nkwazi FC on Sunday afternoon.

Stephen Mutama scored for Nkwazi in the 67th minute to condemn Napsa to the FAZ/Eden University National Division One League.

The news of Napsa’s relegation should come as a shock to many in Zambia football fraternity.

Afterall, Napsa were Zambia’s representatives in the Confederations Cup a few months ago.

However, their performance in the domestic top-flight league has been unconvincing.

This forced management send on leave coach Mohamed Fathi and some members of the secretariat staff, including General Manager and Technical Director Honor Janza.

Now Napsa find themselves on position 16 with 36 points from 33 games.

The pensioners have one game to wind up the season.

However, they cannot survive the chop even if they win the remaining game.

Radiants, with 33 points from 32 games, are on position 17 with 13 points ahead of tail-enders Kitwe United.

Up the table, champions-designate Zesco United lead on 68 points from 33 games ahead of second-placed Zanaco who have 54 points.

Zanaco lost 2-1 to Prison Leopards on Sunday afternoon whereas Zesco were 2-1 winners over Young Green Eagles.

Enock Sakala 21st minute strike and Samson Mwewa own goal in between Isaac Ngoma’s goal for Eagles settled the contest.
