Euro 2020 Didier Deschamps “Really Hurt” After France Exit Euro 2020

France manager Didier Deschamps says it “really hurts” to be knocked out in the last 16 of Euro 2020 by Switzerland on penalties.

The Swiss held a 1-0 lead at half-time. But France came from behind to put it to 3-1. However Switzerland fought hard to equalise 3-3 to send the match to extra time and then penalties.

Swiss keeper Yann Sommer saved Kylian Mbappe’s penalty attempt, sending the underdogs through to the quarter-finals.

I talked to the players. We know the strength of this squad, of this team. We had many magnificent moments together today.” Deschamps said in reaction.

It really hurts. There’s a lot of sadness. And, well, there were many things that we did really well in this match, but not everything. And if we think too much about this match it won’t help too much.

“This Euro was really difficult. It’s not an excuse. And now, there’s the last European champion and the last world champion who have to go home. It hurts but we have to accept it.” Admitted the French Manager.
