It’s eleven years since Ghana Black Stars were sent home by Uruguay who prevented them from being the first ever African nation to reach FIFA World Cup semifinals, in South Africa.

It was on July 2 in Johannesburg, in South Africa. Ghana dated all the World to write an historic page of the African continent against Uruguay in the quarterfinals of 2010 World Cup.

The West African side opened the scoring first as Sulley Muntari beat Fernando Muslera in the 45th minute before the equalizer of Diego Forlan in the second half (55′).

However, Black Stars were knocked out because of a devil hand of Luis Suarez who denied Asamoah Gyan the winning goal in the last minute (120) of the tie.

The then Liverpool forward was shown a red card for that handball. Though Black Stars were handed a penalty, Asamoah Gyan missed it as his shot hit the cross-bar.

However, Ghana have lost to Uruguay during penalty shootouts (4-2) as John Mensah and Dominic Adiyiah missed their penalties.

Speaking on that epic night a year ago, Gyan wished the game could be rescheduled as he said he will never forget his missed penalty.

“Honestly, I didn’t watch the game anymore. I always go back and watch the penalty and that’s the only thing I watch. People tag me on social media and I watch it and shake my head. I wish we could go back and get that penalty, but life goes on. It’s something that I will never forget ”, Gyan said on July 2 2020, as per CitiSportsOnline.
