CAF Champions League SAFA President challenges Kaizer Chiefs to win continental trophy

South African Football Association (SAFA) President, Dr Danny Jordaan, has challenged Kaizer Chiefs to go all the way and win the CAF Champions League trophy of Saturday.

He said this as Chiefs face defending champions Al Ahly of Egypt at Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca, Morocco in the final.

This match is historical for Kaizer Chiefs and it would be tremendous for Amakhosi to win this Edition. There has been so much happening in the country, depressing developments and winning the Champions Trophy would give South Africans some really much needed good news,” Chiefs website quotes Jordaan saying.

The match is a typical biblical Goliath versus David affair considering that while Al Ahly are in awe inspiring form, Chiefs have defied poor domestic league form to find their way to the final.

Chiefs have since left South Africa for Morocco this morning via Johannesburg from Polokwane City where they had camped.

Notable faces in the squad are veteran goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune, Khama Billiat, Lebogang Manyama, Bernard Parker, Samir Nurkovic, Mulomowandau Mathoho, Kgotso Moleko and Willard Katsande.

Chiefs have never won the continental league crown whereas South African coach Pitso Mosimane is chasing a 10th CAF Champions League title with the Egyptian side and a third personal title.

Mosimane won it once with Al Ahly last year and when he was in charge of Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa.

Al Ahly are in Morocco having travelled with a 28-man squad on Wednesday.
