Egypt Ahmed Hegazi declares readiness for Tokyo Olympics opener vs Spain

Egypt U-23 skipper Ahmed Hegazi said the team is ready ahead of their first Tokyo Olympics match against European champions Spain on Thursday, July 22 at 4:30pm.

The 30-year-old centre-back is along with Al Ahly and new CAF Champions league winner Mohamed El-Shenawy and others, the overaged players who are called to beef up the U-23 squad following their U-23 AFCON triumph in 2019.

As Shawky Gharib’s men will enter competition in Group C on Thursday against the Spanish team, Hegazi recognized that their opponents are really strong.

However, he also assured that they are ready for the challenge.

“It’s an unparalleled honour for any player to represent his country in the Olympics“, the Al-Ittihad defender said as per KingFut.

“Spain are very strong, they have excellent players, some of which played in EURO 2020, but we have a strong team too, our team was built through the past four years.

“We have very good players, we prepared well for the Olympics, and we are ready for the Spain game.

“The players will do their best to please the fans in Egypt, we will be aiming for a positive result.”

In addition, Argentina will be the next opponents of Ahmed Hegazi and teammates on Sunday, July 25 and Australia their last group stages match on Wednesday, July 28 at 8pm.
