Nigeria Premier League NPFL: Akwa United Edges Closer To Title As Pillars, Nasarawa United Lose

With four games left to end the 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League(NPFL) Akwa United are nearing closer to winning the title.

Akwa United defeated Warri Wolves 3-0 in Matchday 34 of the NPFL at Uyo to maintain their lead at top of the league table.

Charles Atshimene continued his goal scoring form as he netted a brace before Ubong Friday scored the third goal.

Lobi Stars dented Nasarawa United hope of catching up with Akwa United on the race for the title.

Nasarawa United got in front through Silas Nwankwo who scored twice but Lobi Stars fought back through Samuel Mathias.

Austine Ogunye broke the heart of Nasarawa United as he scored the winner for Lobi Stars.

Kano Pillars also suffered a setback on the road in their quest for the title race following their 2-0 loss to Enugu Rangers at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.

Christian Nnaji broke the deadlock for the Flying Antelopes in the 5th minute before Esor Achibong scored the second goal a minute before the half hour mark.

MFM FC stunned visiting Plateau United 3-1 at the Agege Stadium with Akanni Elijah scoring a brace.

Abia Warriors bounced back to winning ways in Okigwe defeating Heartland 2-1 in the Oriental derby.

Goals from Paul Samson in the 16th minute and Yakubu Hammed in the 39th minute got Aboa coasting to a clean sheet win before Chijoke Akuneto reduced the deficit two minutes.

Sunshine Stars continued to struggle as they were held to a goalless draw by visiting Katsina United in Akure.

Three games will be played today as Dakkada FC hosts Adamawa United.

Enyimba will hope to close up the gap when they welcome FC IfeanyiUbah in the Oriental derby at the Enyimba Stadium Aba.
