Shawky Gharib

Egypt U-23 head coach Shawky Gharib said he does not loose hope as qualifying for Olympic Games’ quarterfinals is concerned despite their 0-1 loss to Argentina on Sunday.

The Pharaohs are yet to win a match in these ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

After holding hosts Japan to a goalless draw for their first game, Ahmed Hagazi’s teammates could not escape the loss against Argentina despite showing interesting things in the first half.

“When and Egyptian player loses focus, it becomes a problem. Argentina scored their only dangerous chance of the game,” Shawky Gharib told beIN Sport TV, as per KingFut.

“This is football, you have to take your chances. We are still working and we have a chance to qualify, we haven’t lost hope.

“I have Ahmed Yasser Rayan, the top scorer of the league, and I have Taher Mohamed, Ramadan Sobhi and Salah Mohsen. Mostafa Mohamed is a big star, and the team’s top scorer and he would have made us stronger. But I will not use his absence as an excuse,” he concluded.

With Spain’s draw against Australia, Egypt still have a chance to qualify for the quarterfinals of Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in case of a win against Australia on July 28th.
