Egyptian Players abroad Al Ahli Tripoli And Egypt Striker Hossam Hassan Lost Libyan League Title

Al Ahli Tripoli have lost the Libyan league final against Al-Ittihad in the penalty shootouts.

This season, the 24 teams of the Libyan league were divided into two groups of 12. The leader of each group would then face the runners up of the other group and the winners of the encounters would then face off in the final.

Al Ahli finished second behind Al-Ittihad and therefore came up against Group A winners Al Ahly Benghazi.

Led by Hassan, who instantly became an integral part of his new squad, the Greens qualified for the final and set up a game against Al-Ittihad.

The 27-year-old started the match, which ended in a draw. And the game stayed unchanged until the penalty shootouts. The Egypt international stepped up to take the first penalty. But his attempt was saved by Mohamed El-Ferjani.

Al Ahli went on to lose in the penalty shootouts 5-6 and Al-Ittihad have now secured their 18th league title, a Libyan record.

Hassan joined Al Ahli last April on a season-long loan from Smouha alongside defender Mohamed Al-Tarhouni for a fee of around €840,000.

Hassan is now set to return to his parent club Smouha. However it’s unclear if he will remain with the Alexandria-based side as the likes of Zamalek, Al Ahly and Pyramids have expressed interest in the striker.
