Africa Soccer MALAWI : Wanderers see off Mafco to qualify for FDH Cup semis

Mighty Wanderers eased past Mafco FC with a 2-0 victory at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre on Sunday afternoon to qualify for the FDH Cup semifinals.

The cup’s leading scorer Vincent Nyangulu scored the opener for Wanderers in the first-half to make it four goals in two games.

One goal suddenly became two when midfielder Vitumbiko Kumwenda scored via a free-kick which was deflected past Mafco goalkeeper Jailos Kapalamula.

In other quarterfinal matches played on Saturday, Ekwendeni Hammers beat Ntopwa FC 2-0 with Jack Maulana and Edgar Mgagama on target at Mzuzu Stadium.

Elsewhere, lower league side Dedza Young Soccer lost 1-4 to Rumphi United at Nankhaka Ground in Lilongwe where Foster Kanyenda, Festus Chikwezga, Trouble Kajani and Gerald Ngwira scored for the visitors.

Ernest Mdapeza netted the consolation goal for Dedza.

The last quarter-final match between Nyasa Big Bullets and Silver Strikers is subject to the former’s return from the ongoing Cecafa Kagame Cup in Tanzania.
