CK Akonnor : Why I called up injured Thomas Partey for WC qualifiers

Ghana Black Stars head coach CK Akonnor explained his decision to invite injured Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey to 2022 FIFA Qatar World Cup’s first two qualifiers.

The 28-year old sustained an ankle injury earlier this month during Gunners’ final pre-season game against Chelsea as he suffered a hard tackle from Loftus-Cheek.

So far, it has been confirmed that Partey will miss out on the Emirates Stadium outfit’s first three Premier League matchs.

However, he gets a call-up by Black Stars gaffer CK Akonnor against all odds.

The latter gave the reason that motivated his choice as he outlines Thomas Partey’s prominence in the national team.

“With Partey we are monitoring, I spoke to him yesterday and it’s clear when he is fit, he’s an important player and he can join us. Partey’s situation is dicey and not conclusive”, Charles Kwablan Akonnor explained as per Ghanasoccernet.

As a reminder, Black Stars will first host Ethiopia on September 3 before travelling to Johannesburg to take on South Africa on the 6th of the same month.
