Asamoah Gyan

Ghana’s all-time top scorer Asamoah Gyan debunked reports claiming he is retired from football as he disappeared from radars since joining Ghana Premier League side Legon Cities in 2020.

The 35-year old is yet to think about retiring from football and acknowledged that he is fighting against weight and fitness problem with the Royals.

Since rejoining his boyhood club 16 years after leaving it, the former Al Ain striker did not play football as he would like to with injury setbacks halting him.

But it is not a synonym pf retirement as he told a local media that if the time to hang up his boots come, he will announce it.

“I have not retired from football,” Gyan told Kessben FM, as per Ghanasoccernet.

“There were some injuries last season, but I am not done playing football. I can wake up one day and announce my retirement from football but at the moment, I am active.

“People will criticise me but I am only hoping to get back to my normal form and weight but if I am not able to regain my form, then I will call it off. But at the moment, I am working on myself to lose my weight.

“I returned to Legon Cities and you could clearly see that things did not go as planned because I have putting on weight but I am giving myself another season and I trust I will be back to my form. And if I am on my form, I don’t think I will be overlooked. But for retirement, not now.”

In addition, Legon Cities maintained their top-flight status in the last days of the league ending at the 11th place. Maybe Gyan’s comeback will do good for them in 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season which will start on October 29.
