Malawi Moyale Barracks FC condemn Nyasa Big Bullets to third consecutive defeat

Defending champions Nyasa Big Bullets wasted a chance to go five points clear at the TNM Super League summit after losing 1-0 to Moyale Barracks FC on Saturday afternoon.

Llyod Njaliwa scored Moyale’s lone goal of the second-round match at Mzuzu Stadium in the Northern Region to condemn Bullets to third their consecutive defeat in all competitions within a week.

Bullets went into the match while smarting from a 1-0 loss to Uganda champions Express FC in the Cecafa Kagame Cup final played in Tanzania last weekend.

On return home, Bullets then lost 4-2 on post-match penalties to Silver Strikers in the FDH Cup quarterfinal match played in Lilongwe on Wednesday.

Moyale compounded the problem for Bullets after beating them on Saturday.

The defending champions remain top on 48 points from 23 games, two points ahead of second-placed Silver Strikers who have played one game more going into Sunday’s meeting with strugglers Blue Eagles in Lilongwe.

Moyale cemented their fifth place on 40 points from 25 matches behind third and fourth-placed Karonga United and Mighty Wanderers who beat Kamuzu Barracks 4-0 and drew 0-0 with Ntopwa FC also on Saturday.

Clement Nyondo bagged and Victor Lungu and Mphatso Kamanga joined him on the scoresheet to leave Kamuzu Barracks on 11th place with 31 points.

In other games, TN Stars’ fine form continued when they beat Mighty Tigers 2-1 whereas Civil Service FC edged out Mafco 1-0.

The league comprises 16 teams who play on round robin basis of home and away with the team earning the most points winning the title and bottom three relegated and are replaced by three regional league champions.

The elite league started in 1986 and Bullets have won it the most, 14 times followed by Silver eight and Wanderers six.
