Africa Soccer CK Akonnor : Ghana coach call up 4 new players due to Covid-19 threat

Ghana Black Stars head coach CK Akonnor has handed a call-up to four new players sue to Covid-19 threat that could see many key players miss the second 2022 World Cup qualifiers clash against South Africa.

Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced on its official website that Black Stars coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor decided to call four new players in order to fill the potential void which UK-based players will create for South Africa game on September 6.

Five players namely Daniel Amartey (Leicester City), Jordan Ayew (Crystal Palace), Tariqe Fosu-Henry (Brentford FC), Baba Abdul Rahman (Reading FC) and Andrew Yiadom (Reading FC) will not travel with the team to Johannesburg to face Bafana Bafana.

Apart from those players, Thomas Partey and Mohammed Kudus are ruled out of both clashes with injury respectively at Arsenal and Ajax Amsterdam.

This compelled Akonnor to call up Joseph Aidoo (defender) of Celta Vigo in Spain, Yaw Yeboah (right winger) of Wisła Kraków of Poland and German-based duo Braydon Manu (right winger) and Daniel Kofi (forward).

In addition, Black Stars will open camp in Cape Coast on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 and play Ethiopia on Friday, September 3, 2021 at 7pm.
