Qatar 2022 Burkina Faso ease past Niger: Occupy Group A second place

Burkina Faso beat hosts Niger 2-0 in a Group A match of the World Cup qualifiers at a neutral Grand Stade de Marrakech in Morrocco on Thursday evening.

Niger, who are unable to play home matches in Niamey as their facility is not yet fit for such high profile matches, held their own in the first-half which ended goalless.

However, the Stallions stepped up the gear in the last 15 minutes of the match to seal the win.

Lassina Traoré put Burkina Faso ahead in the 76th minute before Mohamed Konate doubled the advantage three minutes later.

In the end, it was perfect outing for Burkina Faso coach Kamou Malo whose charges are favourites to lead the group.

On the other hand, Niger coach Jean-Michel Cavalli has a tough task to put his side back on track.

To prepare for the World Cup qualifiers, Niger went to Turkey for camp training.

The latest defeat means that Niger have lost four time, drawn and won once in the last six matches played in all competitions.
