Gambia Scorpions AFCON keeper Jobe signs for Black Leopards

Black Leopards FC have signed The Gambia first-choice goalkeeper Modoue Jobe on a year-long contract in South Africa.

The 32-year-old confirmed the development, saying he was hoping to help Leopards earn promotion from the GladAfrica Championship back to the DStv Premiership.

“I signed [the contract] last week and I started training the same last week. However, I am yet to start playing because my work permit is not yet out. Hopefully, it will be out this week and I can start playing,” Jobe told Africa Top Sports.

“Everything is going fine; the weather is very good [in Limpopo Province]. It is not very hot as Gambia can reach 37 or even 40 degrees Celcius. I am coping. They gave me a very good welcome, so everything is fine.”

Jobe has moved to South Africa following the expiry of his four months contract with Senegalese premier league side ASEC Ndiambour.

Jobe is the number one keeper for the coach Tom Saintfiet-led Gambia that qualified for the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

He moved to Senegal after leaving Saudi Arabian side Jeddeh FC following the expiration of his contract last year.

Jobe was previously on the radar of South African teams such as AmaZulu FC, Supersport United and Bloemfontein Celtic but he said it was not the right time to move.

Today, I can say the right time arrived. It’s a big step for me, from Senegal’s Ligue 1 to South Africa. I had a good offer with Enyimba, but Black Leopard’s offer is the best and football is exposed in South Africa when it comes to visibility, which will help me a lot. I want to help the team, because that’s the primary objective of my move. It’s a good challenge,” he told Fallaboweh.

In Gambia, Jobe played for Real de Banjul and Niarry Tally.
