Tau hasn’t played an official game of football since May when Brighton drew 1-1 with West Ham in the penultimate game of the season.

Despite that, he was called-up to the South Africa national team camp for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, even starting their first game against Zimbabwe.

The match ended in a dull goalless draw. And the Al Ahly forward was subbed-off in the 78th minute for Sipho Mbule.

Tau didn’t put on his best performance with the Bafana Bafana. And Broos believes that’s due to his poor physical condition.

Gift Links didn’t have a big impact on the game during the first half. So we replaced him at half-time.” Broos said in the post-match press conference.

As for Percy Tau, you watched the match. He’s not in his best physical condition.

“Tau lacked coordination. This is something he’ll have to work on in the coming weeks. But he remains a special player. And that is why he stayed on the pitch for a longer time.

“I hope Percy Tau will be in better shape in the next two international breaks in October and November.” He concluded.

Tau will get the chance to redeem himself when they face Ghana in the second matchday in the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.
