Qatar 2022 $64,000 carrot dangled for Warriors win in Ethiopia

Zimbabwe’s Warriors players and coaching panel members will share $64,000 if they beat hosts Ethiopia in today’s World Cup qualifying match.

A statement from Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) says Sports, Youth and Arts Deputy Minister, Tino Machakaire, has sourced the funds from a benefactor.

The Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) is delighted to inform the football fraternity and the nation at large that the interim Zifa fundraising committee has through the facilitation of the Honourable Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports, Arts and Recreation Tino Machakaire secured a financial motivational package for the Warriors for the critical match against Ethiopia slated for Bahir Dar Stadium at 3pm tomorrow [today.

The Deputy Minister and Minister Dr Kirsty Coventry have been supportive of Zifa. Honourable Machakaire has managed to secure a total of US$64,000 to be shared equally by all players and the technical team in the event of a win against Ethiopia,” reads the statement which was released on Monday.

The money should motivate Zimbabwe players to beat Ethiopia after the Warriors started the campaign with an unconvincing home goalless draw against South Africa.

Bafana Banafa have since gone top of group G after stunning Ghana 1-0 on Monday evening to make it four points from two games.

Ghana are second with three points whereas Zimbabwe are third with one point and Ethiopia anchor the table without a point.
