Zambia Chambeshi re-loads Zambia’s Chipolopolo for World Cup qualifiers

Zambia’s Chipolopolo interim coach Beston Chambeshi has summoned a strong 24-member squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Equatorial Guinea next month.

Chambeshi has invited England-based Patson Daka of Leicester City, Brighton and Hove Albion’s Enock Mwepu and Scotland’s Rangers FC striker Fashion Sakala Junior for the back-to-back qualifiers.

Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has released the squad, which interestingly, has just one player invited from South Africa—goalkeeper Mwenya Chibwe of Baroka FC.

The likes of Augustine Mulenga of AmaZulu, Mamelodi Sundowns’ Kennedy Mweene, Ghampani Lungu from SuperSport United and Nathan Sakala of Stellenbosch FC has been omitted.

TP Mazembe defender and former skipper Kabaso Chongo is also conspicuously missing from the squad.

The interim manager Chambeshi should be seeking for a better showing in the games against Equatorial Guinea as he started his reign with a 2-1 win in Mauritania and a home 2-0 loss to Tunisia.

A statement from FAZ says Zambia will stop over in Cameroon for camp training before travelling to Equatorial Guinea on October 7 then hosting them at Heroes Stadium on October 10.
