DR Congo Rainford Kalaba on target for TP Mazembe

Former Zambia midfield maestro Rainford Kalaba was among the scorers as TP Mazembe thrashed Sanga Balende 4-0 on Sunday in the Democratic Republic of Congo Ligue 1 match.

Mazembe led 1-0 at break courtesy of Jean Baleke’s 14 th minute goal before Kalaba scored the second goal in the 68th minute at TP Mazembe Stadium.

Tandi Mwape added the third goal with four minutes to full-time with a header from a corner kick before Djos Issama completed the rout on the stroke of full-time.

The win marked a good start to the reign of Mazembe new coach Franck Dumas who replaced Pamphile Mihayo months ago.

Under the former coach, the AFCON winner Kalaba was rarely featured and he seemed to be on his way out, only for his fortunes to change under the new coach.

Mazembe website rated the start of the French coach’s reign highly saying the performance of the team showed “play, control and above all a clearly offensive second half.”

Jean Baleke, Rainford Kalaba, Tandi Mwape and Djos Issama, we have identified four scorers: a striker, a midfielder and two defenders. This means that the danger came from everywhere during this first outing in Ligue 1,” Mazembe website says.

In another game played on Sunday, FC Saint Éloi Lupopo beat newly promoted US Panda B52 2-1.
