FIFA World Cup Uganda coach Micho braces for battle of Kigali

Uganda coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic will take the Cranes into a familiar territory of Rwanda on Thursday.

Micho once coached in Rwanda and he said he knows what to expect from the Amavubi in the World Cup qualifier. It promises to be the battle of Kigali.

The Cranes face the hosts Rwanda in Kigali on Thursday before welcoming them in Uganda on October 10 in the Group E contests.

Addressing the press in Uganda before the team’s departure for Kigali on Tuesday, the Serbian mentor said his charges “have what it takes to get the performance and result.”

The former Zambia mentor added that the Cranes are a team in transition with a new batch of players taking over the mantle from veterans who retired recently.

Micho said he was fully aware of Rwanda and its coach Vincent Mashami owing to the years he spent coaching in that country.

“I know their players. I know what they think but instead of being proud of what I know about them, I would like in the elements of theoretical awareness to present to our players points of vulnerability and sources of danger to close because a perfect team doesn’t exist,” Uganda FA website quoted Micho saying.

Uganda are yearning for their first win in the group, as they lie on third place with two points from two games at par on points with second-placed Kenya.

Rwanda anchor the table with one point from two games and up the table, Mali lead on four points also from two points.

Winners of the 10 groups in Africa will qualify for the final knock-out round to produce five finalists for the World Cup finals scheduled for Qatar in 2022.
