Egyptian Premier League Al Ahly remain top after narrow win: Zamalek pile pressure

Al Ahly beat National Bank 1-0 on Sunday evening to make it two wins on the bounce for the Egyptian Premier League side on Sunday evening.

Mohamed Sherif came off the bench to score the only goal of the game for Al Ahly who featured South African Percy Tau in attack following his two goals in a debut match played last week.

Mozambican Luis Miquissone, who joined Al Ahly from Simba in Tanzania months ago, also featured for Al Ahly.

Sherif had replaced Mohamed Hany before scoring the lone goal with a powerful shot.

Al Ahly lead the log table on a superior goal-aggregate over rivals and holders Zamalek who beat Tala’a El-Gaish 2-0 also on Sunday. Both teams have played two games each.

Zamalek made it two wins on the bounce after having opened the season with a 2-0 beating of ENNPPI whereas Al Ahly punished Ismaily last week.

Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane is determined to win the Egyptian domestic league title this season.

The South African missed it last season when Zamalek won it to dampen the mood in Al Ahly camp despite that they defended the CAF Champions League.
