Malawi Malawian winger Gerald Phiri Junior completes move to Al Hilal

Malawian winger Gerald Phiri Junior has said good bye to Baroka FC in South Africa after completing his transfer to Sudanese giants Al Hilal.

Reports indicate that Phiri has signed a three-year contract with Al Hilal from the South Africa’s DStv Premiership team.

The lanky player has since posted on tweeted his picture while signing a piece of paper signaling that he had sealed the deal with Al Hilal.

I just want to say a big THANK YOU to @Baroka FC for the great and wonderful years We’ve had together. The time has come to turn a new page and say good bye. I do so with adeep appreciation for each of of you. Thank you to my management as well @MD_SSG@ keegan_siyavuma,” the 28-year-old tweeted.

Phiri played for Bidvest Wits, Platinum Stars and Ajax Cape Town before signing for Baroka two seasons ago.

Earlier, the Malawian attacker told the Daily Sun newspaper of South Africa that it was now time for him to look for new challenges.

It will be a huge challenge for me, but I will be ready. This kind of opportunity will help me grow as a player. I enjoyed my stay in South Africa and I think it’s time for new challenges,”  he was quoted saying.

Phiri has made three appearances for Baroka this season.

The versatile player is the first-choice for the Malawi squad that qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for Cameroon next month.
