Egyptian Premier League Mosimane says wanted more goals against Zamalek

Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has said he wanted his charges to score more goals in the Egyptian Premier League game against rivals Zamalek on Friday.

Mosimane said this in a post-match interview after Al Ahly outclassed Zamalek 5-3 in an eight goal thriller staged at Cairo International Stadium.

“We managed to achieve a good result over Zamalek. My players played with a good spirit and were also tactically smarter.”

“We scored five goals; three in the first half and two in the second half. I wanted to score more, but you cannot have everything,” Mosimane told Al Ahly website.

The win proved decisive for Al Ahly who climbed to the top of the Premier League log table.

Revenge was somewhat in the air heading into this Cairo Derby as months ago, Zamalek denied Mosimane a treble last season after pipping the CAF Champions League winners to the Egyptian Premier League title.

Al Ahly missed out on the domestic league title shortly after retaining the CAF Champions League crown and winning CAF Super Cup.

Summing up Friday’s win, the South African said Al Ahly proved they were a big team in world football.

We are a big team. We are the champions of Africa, we are the team number three in the world, we are the CAF Super Cup champions… We are Al Ahly.”

“Finally, I would like to thank Al Ahly fans for their constant support to the team. They gave us great energy and motivated us a lot to achieve tonight’s victory,” he said.

Al Ahly were happy with the win they quashed the fines they had months ago imposed on the team’s coaching panel after the Egyptian Cup post-match penalty loss.
