Africa Soccer Ramaphosa Congratulates Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies For Winning CAF Women’s Champions League

The Sundowns ladies made history by becoming the first ever winners of the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League. And South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed his happpiness sending them a congratulatory message.

In a fiery encounter against Hasaacas Ladies of Ghana under the skies of the Egyptian capital, Cairo, it would be the ladies from the South African capital that would get off the starting blocks the quickest at the 30 June Stadium, and eventually power away to an impressive 2-0 victory on the night.

The Sundowns ladies were able to get themselves over the line through goals from Chuene Morifi and Andisiwe Mgcoyi who scored in one half apiece. Mgcoyi’s evening would prove to only get better from there, as not only did she lift the trophy with the team, but also receive the Player of the Match award afterwards.

It proved to be an atrocious midfield battle between the two teams with both Sundowns Ladies and Hasaacas Ladies robbing each other of clear cut chances as they continued to duel it out for ascendency in the middle of the park.

President Ramaphosa was then on hand to recognise this special feat and send the Sundowns Ladies side a message of congratulations through his official Twitter account.

“National congratulations to the women of Mamelodi Sundowns for your triumph in the CAF Women’s Champions League. You’ve done your club and country proud. Well done and enjoy your celebration.” Said Ramaphosa’s tweet.

With the Sundowns Ladies having won the CAF Women’s Champions League, they have successfully completely a double feat for the club, which has since seen both their women’s and men’s side win their respective competitions. The men’s side lifted the competition’s trophy under the tutelage of now Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane in 2016.
