COSAFA Angola, Zambia win Cosafa Under-17 Boys and Girls’ titles

Angola beat pre-tournament favourites Zambia 2-1 on Wednesday to win the Boys’ Under-17 football tournament for Cosafa in Lesotho.

The game seemed to be destined for post-match penalties before Eusebio headed in the winner for the Angolans.

Cosafa website reports that Angola took the lead in the  11th minute when Eusebio headed them in front for the first of a brace on the day.

However, Zambia equalized two minutes later through striker forward Marcel Zimba to put the game at 1-1.

Finally, Angola came up with the winning moment as Eusebio was granted space to execute a free header into the net, according to Cosafa.

Zambia’s Joseph Banda won the Player of the Tournament and the accolade comes with an added incentive.

Banda will spend a week in Spain as a guest of LaLiga Santander.

Banda will also share the Golden Boot with Malawi’s Masambiro Kalua after the pair both scored five goals.

Angolan goalkeeper Domingos Da Silva takes home the Golden Glove, while Eswatini won the Fair Play award.

The football side of the Games has since ended with Zambia having won the the Girls’ tournament by beating Botswana in the final on Monday, Cosafa reports.
