Malawi TNM hikes football league sponsorship package

Malawi’s mobile phone services provider, TNM, has increased its annual sponsorship package for the elite domestic Super League to MK100 million ($125,000), up from $112,000 (MK90 million).

TNM chief executive officer Arnold Mbwana announced the increase during a gala for the 2021 awards held in Blantyre on Friday. Some $=800 Malawi Kwacha (MK).

Sponsorship of this league is a big deal for us. Tonight, I am delighted to announce that from next season, the league sponsorship has been adjusted to K100 million [[per season],” he said.

The increase will see the champions pocketing $50,000 (MK40 million), up from $18,000 (MK15 million).

Mbwana said: “From next year, the winner will be getting K40 million, in addition to Player of the Season receiving K2 million as an individual package. These adjustments reflect our recognition of the importance of football in Malawi.”

TNM started sponsoring the elite league in Malawi 15 years ago. The league comprises 16 teams.

Speaking earlier, Football Association of Malawi president Walter Nyamilandu hailed TNM for the continued sponsorship describing the company as a true partner of the game in the southern African country.

At the gala, Nyasa Big Bullets were crowned officially as the champions for the third time on the bounce and for the unprecedented 15th time since the league’s inception in 1986.

Zambia: $770,000 per annum (MTN)

Zimbabwe: USD700, 000 (Delta)
